| NHL Gamers (Eastern Conf) |
Welcome to the game worn section. All these jerseys have been worn on the ice in National Hockey League play. The current focus of my collection is to get at least one jersey from each NHL team. I proudly stand at 27 of 30 (I need Carolina, Minnesota and Pittsburgh to reach that goal). A lot of my jerseys reflect a personal attachment, I would rather have a jersey from a player that I have seen play in the ECHL, AHL or NHL and few have heard of than a jersey from a well known player that I've never seen in action.
WARNING TO COLLECTORS: Especially the die hard purists of the hobby. Some of my game worn jerseys have been autographed! I do this when I actually meet the player and it means more to me than loss of re-sale value.

NHL Jerseys:
Eastern Conference:
Atlanta Thrashers...
Richard Smelick #42 2002-03 Road Jersey. I loved the look of the Thrashers jerseys as soon as they came out and this one is from a guy who spent many years toiling on the Sabres blueline. Pic 3 is a small circular repair on the sleeve.
Byron Dafoe #34 2003-04 Road 2patch. This is a pretty beat up sweater from a fromer Hampton Roads Admiral. It has the Dan Snyder memorial patch and the 5th Anniversary patch. Nice Goalie wear and has a small un-repaired slice just below the crest on the front (Pic 3).
Boston Bruins...
Mike Sylvia #51 2001-02 Road (T/C). This I actually got by mistake. I thought it was a jersey worn by Mike Silva who used to play for the Admirals, I still like the jersey though. It has some wear and certainly filled my gap for a Bruins Sweater! A great jersey I got a sweet deal on.
Buffalo Sabres (New Style)...
Mikka Noronen #35 2003-04 Home. I have always had a soft spot for goalies because my Dad was one, and of course the Sabres are the hometown team. Mikka played some of his best hockey in this sweater, passing a couple milestones in it. Shows a little wear but has great pilling around the neck (Pic 3).
Ales Kotalik #12 2003-04 3rd. This is the first jersey I knew was mine when I saw it in action. I knew I was going to be at a Friday night home game and made sure I had my hooks in this one before I headed up to the Buff for the game. Some nice battle damage on this one with a good stick mark through the crest (Pic 4) and a nice big burn in one of the elbows (Pic 3).
Daniel Briere #48 2002-03 Home. This is a great jersey, Briere has cemented himself in the Sabres organization and this is the jersey that it all started in. He wore this in his first game with the Sabres and a couple nights later netted his first goal as a Sabre in it. The jersey had to be made up quick so the NHL-MGG number is written in the fight strap (Pic 4) until the tag was added. And Mr. Briere really can beat up a jersey, this has some great "in the trenches" wear (Pic 3).
Rob Ray #32 2002-03 Road. Another special jersey, and one I might get grief for because it's signed (Pic 5). But after spending his whole life with the Sabres Rayzor was shipped to the Sens in hope of Cup glory, but it was the Senators! The last time Rob pulled a Sabre sweater over his head it was in this jersey, finishing a road trip with a stop in Tampa near the trade deadline. He got in his last fight as a Sabre in this too, taking 5 in that last Lightning game (See ripped neck pic 4). It has Rob's trademark industrial strength fight strap and as I mentioned it is signed "Rob Ray-32 '03" on the back. My favorite jersey by far!
Maxim Afinogenov #61 2002-03 Home. Finney has been a favorite of mine since he got to the Sabres and although he vanished in the 2006 playoffs, He had a breakout year leading the team in scoring. The Sabres have just signed him to a multi-year deal and I can't wait to see this waterbug scoot around for the Sabres for a few more years. He's awesome to watch and really has the jets. Some good wear on the body and a bunch of sleeve wear (Pics 3&4) on this sweater.
J. P. Dumont #17 2005-06 Home w/Danny Gare retirement patch. Jeep was close to returning form his sports hernia when they raised Danny Gare's #18 to the rafters so this jersey was prepped just in case. He wore it until his injury and it has some interesting blue discoloration on it near both armpits (Pics 3 & 4). All indicators are that this was the last year that J.P spent with the Sabres, I know I'll miss him.
Rory Fitzpatrick #8 Alt w/Pat LaFontaine retirement patch. This Friday night red jersey was worn by Rory when Patty La-La-LaFontaine joined Danny Gare from earlier this year and the usual suspects in the HSBC rafters on March 3rd 2006. This jersey has some nice stick marks on it (Pic 5) and a couple of good burns in one of the sleeves (Pic 4). I was really happy to be able to get both of the specially patched retirement jerseys that the Sabres wore this year.
Brian Holzinger #19 Practice. A work shirt from one of my favorite Sabres. Not only did he wear the greatest number of all time but he can skate like the wind. If my guess is correct based on the style of the Center Ice logo, this should be the first or second year with the "Demonic Goat Head" logo. I picked this up right in the store at HSBC for a song.
Buffalo Sabres (Old Style)...
Alexei Zhitnik #44 2002-03 TBTC. Is this an old jersey or a new jersey. In a surprise move new Sabres owner Tommy G sent the team out in their old style sweaters for the season finale April 6, 2003. I was deployed at the time and made a satellite phone call to Barry to make sure I picked one of these up. It has the NHL-MGG number on the fight strap because these were certainly rushed together. A good sized stick mark on the left front near the bottom (Pic 4) is the only real damage to this 1-game-1-der. I also got a nice 8x10 of Zhitnik from that game courtesy of the Sabres.
Phiilipe Boucher #4 1995-96 Road 25th patch. This is a nice jersey from the good ole' days. It's was also worn by a guy who has logged over 500 NHL games and is still getting it done. This is the last anniversary patch the Sabres had. They wanted a 30th patch but forgot to tell the NHL and they weren't happy about that. Nice wear on the sleeves as seen in Pic #3.
Curtis Brown #37 1996-97 Home. This ia a really early jersey from a Sabre favorite. Curtis played his 2nd, 3rd 4th and 5th games as a Sabre in this one. His first game for the Blue & Gold was also a home game, the finale of the 95-96 season. Curtis didn't get any points with this sweater on and it has very light use. There is faint staining on the crest and a couple places on the front that appear to be blood (Pic 3).
This is an old school Sabres practice jersey from someone who had a bad day at the practice rink. It has a hefty blood stain that covers the top portion of the crest. No numbers or markings that would indicate who "personalized" this one.
Carolina Hurricanes...
Nothing yet, but I'd love a nice 3 patch!
Florida Panthers...
Mathieu Biron #34 2002-03 Alt. A gently used jersey from Mat. I like how he wears #34 and his goalie brother Martin wears #43, Mat became the first player since Phil Espo to score on his own brother when he faked Marty out of his jock in the 03-04 season.
Montreal Canadiens...
Donald Audette #82 2003-04 White Vintage. This has always been my favorite Habs style and I wish they would bring it back for good. There is some minor abuse to this jersey but it was only worn in one game, the first ever game in these Vintage sweaters. I recently traded for this formers Sabres' jersey to a Forum member who collected the Vintage series jerseys with C's or A's and I had a Graig Rivet with the A. A good trade that got me another jersey from a Buffalo favorite. You can see some minor scuffs on the sleeves and a paint transfer and scuff in the close up of the Vintage patch.
New Jersey Devils...
Jim McKenzie #19 1999-02 PS Away. This is a nice Devils jersey from the pre-season. It has the Pro Player logo on the hem covered up by a patch (Pic 3) and some decent use. I like it because my favorite player of all time is Johnny 'Pie' McKenzie of the Bruins (That's why I wear and love the #19!) and I have to think that Jim might have liked Pie a little himself to wear this number. I believe he may have worn the number elsewear so it might not be coincidence, but it is most certainly my best chance to have a #19 McKenzie in my collection!
Devils Christmas colors practice. This right now is all I can afford of the Devils Red/Green era but still a well weathered practice jersey. It has lotsa stick and puck marks and a couple of nice repairs, including a monster to the back of the neck. I'd love to hear the story on that one.
New York Islanders...
Alexei Zhitnik #77 2005-06 Alt. I thought Zhit's departure form Buffalo would be a big blow to the blue line but Islanders fans will tell you where the 'big blow' was in the 05-06 season. I do like these funky orange sweaters though. This has some minor burns on the sleeves (Pic 3) and the usual light wear for a 3rd jersey.
New York Rangers...
Vladimir Malakhov #23 2002-03 Home. These are just classics. The Rangers jerseys have always been simplisticly beautiful. This one is from a journeyman defender and shows decent wear.
Ottawa Senators...
Brian Pothier #2 2003-04 Home w/Roger Patch. I wanted to make sure I got my hooks in a Sens jersey with the Roger Neilson patch on it. Roger was a great hockey guy and a former fixture in the Sabres Orginization. Shortly after I landed this Pothier jersey I discovered that he was on the Bingo Sens roster and they were headed to town to play Norfolk. I waited for Brian after the game and he was great to talk to. It turns out we even skated on the same rinks back when I was stationed near his hometown of New Bedford Mass. Of course I was in a men's league and he was in high school. But we still had a great talk and he personalized this one on the inside for me. Thanks to Forum member 648_PIMS for hanging out and taking the pics.
Andrej Meszaros #38 2005-06 Away. Andrej wore this number 38 jersey for the entire pre-season then switched to his familiar #14 for the regular season. The wear on this jersey is the usual light from pre-season but it does have a couple of marks on the back right near the 8 (Pic 3) I also discovered a nice pic of him form the pre-season wearing this very shirt and his player page on the Sens web site has a picture of him in the red #38. A rare shirt form a rookie that amassed 39 points and over 1400 minutes in 05-06
Philadelphia Flyers...
Eric Lindros #88 1992-93 Road w/Cup Anniv Patch. This jersey came to me early in the hobby from someone who was getting out of the hockey jersey aspect and focusing on autographed NFL mini helmets. It shows light to meduim wear and is auto'd on one of the 8's (This one I didn't do) and is a really noce piece from Eric's rookie season when he still kept his head up.
Pittsburg Penguins...
Playing hard to get.
Tampa Bay Lightning...
Martin Cibak #8 2003-04 P/S. I have always liked Cibak's play and he shined for his home country in the 2004 world cup. Jersey shows minimal wear but none the less played an early part in the Bolts march to the Cup.
Toronto Maple Leafs...
Wendel Clark #17 1992-93 Road W/Cup Anniv Patch. This jersey is pretty beat up as Wendel's from early on tend to be. I thought I had a photomatch to this a little while ago(Pic 3) but upon closer examination the mark on the sleeve number went in a diferent direction. Close but still looking, maybe someday.
Washington Capitals (Old Style)...
Al Iafrate 1992-92 Home W/75th Patch. I always liked the old style Caps jerseys (I wish they had blue alternates for these!) and this is a nice one. Has some nice wear from the trenches on it and a unique bit of wear right next to the 75th patch (Pic 3). Al still holds the record for hardest (fastest) shot in the All Star Skills competition.
Washington Capitals (New Style)...
Sergei Gonchar #55 2003-04 Home PS/Reg. This one was worn in the entire pre season and then for two games in the regular season. I had been looking for a new style Caps for a long time and this is one form a first rate defenseman who left the Caps before the 05-06 season.

Sebastian Charpentier #35 2002-03 Home. This is a jersey I have been after for a long time. Charpy was a key member of the Hampton Roads Admirals when they won their final Kelly Cup in 1998. This Caps jersey is from a SOTB night and is listed in the MGG Population report as "Promotional" which is also hand written on the NHL-MGG tag (Pic #6). There is a nice scuff near the nameplate (Pic #3) and some good marks on the sleeves (Pics 4&5). Now all I need is one of the defunct Blue jerseys to complete the new style Caps trilogy
